With a vision to bring world-class wildlife care and rehabilitation to the greater Brisbane area, RSPCA Queensland commissioned BSPN to conceptualise the ideal facility.
The centre’s primary function is veterinary care for Australian wildlife, however a strong integration of community education and engagement as well as academic mentorship influenced the design.
Conceptually, the campus creates a connection with the native Australian environment through blurring the lines between internal and external spaces and the assimilation of sustainable passive design. The main building comprises a series of pavilions interconnected by naturally ventilated, naturally illuminated and landscaped walkways, with the materiality throughout reflecting hues and textures found in nature.
